DONE.
So, the day has come, passed and gone.

In all honesty, the day was a blur, and it was at the near-end of a very exhausting week. Over 7 days, I drove over 2000 km in Ireland, which totalled more than 50 hrs of driving time. A few summary points to the trip:
  • Landing at 5:30 am on Saturday, driving 2.5 hrs into Limerick to the market and to get the rest of my stuff and some mail from the house, then driving 3 hours to Kenmare. I don't remember much of the last hour ...
  • We tried to go to the Skelligs twice, but no luck. We woke up at 5 am drove the 2 hours from Kenmare to Portmagee, but the weather was super windy, and so the day we were booked was cancelled. We tried again the next day (yet again, 2 hour drive, 5 am wakeup) and as we were first on the provisional waiting list we got on a boat! To depart in 2 hours. So we waited - only to be told that we weren't actually on the boat .... the biggest slap in the face? We met some gentlemen who did get to go a few days later, and they had space on their boat.

Since we wasted the time waiting in the morning, we had to rush the rest of the Ring of Kerry, and couldn't hike Torc Waterfall because of time constraints.

I'm still really not happy about it.

Again, because of crap weather, next day's diving was also cancelled.

Diving and the Skelligs were the two biggest things I was looking forward to on this trip over for graduation. I think I was looking forward to them more than grad itself. And they were supposed to be my activity days - lots of hiking and diving to counterbalance the eating and sitting / driving. So instead, it was just sitting and driving, and I feel awful.

We did get to go to the Blasket Islands one day, and I got to "hike" around for an hour, but even then felt like not much.
  • We had awful weather all the way until graduation - and it's been sunny and 22 since. Not 13 degrees with 40 km/h winds and rainy like the week we actually needed nice weather. Trying not to sound bitter but come on!
  •  The Giant's Causeway was a nice day - but man. Visiting places in tourist season in ridiculous!! The crowds!
  • Flying first class both ways was an exceptional treat. Especially on the way back where I could sleep and study!
  • My dad got to watch my graduation via live stream on his phone back at home. Though I wish both parents could have been there, that was still pretty awesome :)

So that was a very very brief snapshot of the trip - but we did cover a LOT of ground! A lot of it (most of it) ground I had covered before, but some was new to me. And some - like Dingle - will always be welcome covered ground to me, forever.

And tomorrow, I start a 3-4 day driving journey and cover more ground to move a couple provinces over.

Initially, months and months ago, I wanted to do a big, long post on how it feels to be done. Well, this is a long post, but I honestly don't have the words for my initial idea. I think that's because I'm not actually done. So yes, I passed Part 1 of my licensing exams (Part 2 I can do next year).

But in reality, I'm only just about to start. So I think that's why I don't have anything to say yet - because I'm not done. Don't worry, this isn't the last post! I still will have one more :) And I might actually have something to say.

But I am packed. My new car (SUV) is packed to leave tomorrow, with the aim of being halfway through Wisconsin by dinner time. It's a shame I won't be able to road trip / sight see / geocache along the way, but I really do want to get to SK as quickly as possible. It's also a shame that I can't bring as much wine as I wanted to another province - there are apparently interprovincial limits! So I left a box behind ...

I still can't believe I'm moving tomorrow. Which means another stint of new hotel beds every night for a bit but it's nearing an end (only 2 more weeks and I get my own bed for a while!!) This whole "break" has been a whirlwind. And it doesn't stop now, but it's nearing a bit of a calm.

Maybe.

We'll see :)

I still have so many things I didn't get around to, and still a list of things to do - but I got everything done I needed to (miraculously).

For now, the last things to do will be to enjoy a steak dinner, some watermelon and feta, and get a good night's rest!
