With already more than half the world’s population living in cities, the conversation around urban agriculture needs to get bigger. Last weekend in Melbourne at the Urban Agriculture Forum we had an amazing gathering of people who are already doing it – sharing their successes, challenges, ideas and inspiration. There were farmers and academics, social workers and teachers, community health workers, community gardeners, sustainability activists and young people too. Inspirational conversations everywhere!

It has been two days of talking #urbanagriculture here at the William Angliss Institute for the #UAF2018. It’s lunchtime and a chance to walk around and chat to some of those gathered here and sharing their experiences in this common ground we share… our land and our food. My question is do we want a future where the food we eat comes from close to where we live or do we want to become entirely dependent on food that comes from a long way away?
